Rural Film Culture

Write for us

Rural Film Culture welcomes concise, original pitches about the places and practices of cinema beyond major film centres. Send proposals through the Contact page; a clear idea is more useful than a finished article.

What we welcome

Propose an explainer, comparison, history piece or considered account of a rural film-culture subject. Topics might include screening formats, how a film night is organised, exhibition histories, local moving-image traditions or the choices involved in small-scale film-making. Keep the focus distinct from film reviews and generic cinema commentary.

A useful pitch

Tell us the central question, the main point readers should leave with and why the subject suits this publication. Note the likely structure and the sources or experience you would draw on. Identify any uncertainty, permissions or conflicts of interest that matter. Do not invent access, quotes, credentials or reporting.

Before sending

Pitches should be original, specific and written for general readers. We do not promise publication or a response by a particular date. Include your name and a way to reply in the contact form, then choose the editorial question option and explain that you are proposing a contribution.

Our point of view

A screen is part of its place

A film night depends on more than the film: the room, the audience and the way people come together all matter.
